USHERING:

Volunteer to usher and see the show for free!

For all our shows performed at the Waldron Arts Center and Constellation Playhouse, we will have online sign up forms for ushers to sign up for specific performances. This commitment requires you to be timely, well dressed, and courteous to our patrons. Ushers are required to arrive one hour prior to the start of a performance, wearing black bottoms and a white top.

Duties will include – but are not limited to – directing patrons to their assigned seats, handing out programs, assisting with accessible seating, and generally welcoming patrons and helping them enjoy their time with us. Ushers are encouraged to attend the show they are working at no cost, and may be asked to assist the box office attendant with post-show collection of donations and/or clean-up.

Current Usher sign ups are linked below!

Positions are also available for Night of the Event ticket sellers and Concessions volunteers. Additional training is required for these positions.

Questions? Contact Audience Services Manager Jordan Stephens at jordan@seeconstellation.org.

PLAY READING:

Join the team of readers for the Woodward/Newman Award, Constellation’s open submission process for unpublished works! With over 2,000 submissions for the upcoming season, you have the chance to read what could be the next American classic. Get free tickets to Constellation shows, exclusive access to new works, and help choose the next Constellation Original production.

Readers are given a number of scripts of their choosing and, after reading, are expected to submit a short review via Google Forms, rating the play from 1 – 10. They may read as many or as few plays as they’d like. No experience is necessary! Woodward/Newman Readers meet once a year before a performance of the winning play from the previous season for an orientation, chance to meet other readers, and short event featuring the playwright and creative team of the production. Readers are then invited to stay for the performance of the show (that they may have helped select!).

To sign up to be a reader or for more information, email literary@seeconstellation.org.

BOARD MEMBERSHIP:

Constellation Stage & Screen is seeking applicants who are passionate about supporting theater in Bloomington and Southern Indiana and willing to make a commitment to advancing Constellation’s mission and vision. The board is composed of people with a broad range of backgrounds and skills, and no prior experience on a theater board is necessary. Skills such as financial, legal, operations, development, HR, management, and more are required to successfully run Constellation Stage & Screen as a $2.1m operation. Additionally we are always looking for Board members who can help expand the scope of our impact to new communities.

Constellation Board applicants will generally start by serving for 3-6 months on a board committee to learn about the organization and judge if serving on the board is a good fit for them. After that period, both parties will assess if membership seems like a good fit and, if so, such membership entails a three-year commitment.

The Constellation Stage & Screen Board Member agreement describes expectations for Board membership:

  • Attend a monthly board meeting and participate in the leadership processes.
  • Be a member of at least one committee, which typically meets monthly.
  • Make an annual financial contribution which is meaningful to you and participate in fund-raising events.
  • Help expand and develop Constellation Stage & Screen’s audience and supporters.

Constellation Stage & Screen seeks to create an inclusive, welcoming environment and encourages anyone with interest to apply.

To inquire: Complete the board inquiry form. You will be contacted by a member of the Constellation Stage & Screen staff or board to discuss your interest and the right next steps for your engagement.

If you have any questions, please contact Managing Director Gabe Gloden at gabe@seeconstellation.org or 812-336-7110.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP:

Constellation Stage & Screen values the input and work from volunteers on several of our active committees, which are overseen by our board of directors. Participating on a volunteer committee is a great way for seasoned and early-career professionals to utilize their unique skill set in support of the work we do. Some active Constellation committees include Fundraising, Finance, Visual Arts, Education, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, and Strategic Marketing & Communications.

To inquire about committee membership, contact Managing Director Gabe Gloden at gabe@seeconstellation.org.

PRODUCTION CREW / ASSISTANTS:

Constellation regularly needs Assistant Stage Managers, Dressers, Spot Operators, and other valuable backstage and running crew personnel. If you’re interested in any of these positions or learning more about joining the production crew, please contact our Production Manager, Topher Rohrer at topher@seeconstellation.org.
