Becoming a Comedian (Grades 5-6)

Put your funny bone to the test in Constellation Stage & Screen’s Becoming a Comedian (Grades 5-6)! This immersive and experiential class will give young, budding comedians the opportunity to explore and create in a safe, fun, and collaborative learning environment. Students will foster confidence and creativity by developing fundamental skills in improv, improvised sketch writing, classic sketch writing, and live performance. The class will culminate in a live showcase highlighting both the ensemble and individual performers.

Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner

Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner

Constellation’s Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner reinforces and builds upon improvisational skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv, will offer an introduction to long-form improv, and is open to adults with previous improv experience (class, workshop, troupe, etc). Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Intro to Improv for Adults

Constellation’s Intro to Improv for Adults introduces basic improv skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv and is open to adults with no previous improv experience. Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Theater Playground: Goosebumps, Ghosts, and Ghouls (Grades K-2)

Theater Playground: Goosebumps, Ghosts, and Ghouls is an introduction to theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) and will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling through imaginative play. Drawing inspiration from silly and spooky popular kids’ movies like Casper, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, and ParaNorman, students will explore pretend-play games while building foundational theater skills such as improvisation, communication, and character creation. Class activities will spark creative thinking, examine point of view, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

Acting Ensemble for Kids: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Grades 3-4)

Constellation’s Acting Ensemble for Kids: The Legend of Sleepy Haolow (Grades 3-4) is a fast-paced and fun exploration of acting that will use a funny and kid-friendly theatrical version of the spooky classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, to focus on building an ensemble. Students will also learn the basics of theatrical staging and theater etiquette while developing the building blocks of acting technique — including voice and speech, creative movement, and exploration of world and character — all while having a spooktacular time as they work towards a final showcase! Students will emerge from the class more articulate, confident, and collaborative performers. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as acting students with some experience.

Intro to Acting for Adults

Constellation’s Intro to Acting for Adults curriculum is adapted from a variety of master teachers and acting tradition and will focus on the following:

  • Understanding the actor’s toolbox (body, voice, breath, imagination)
  • Identifying given circumstances
  • Acting exercises and improv games to build confidence, trust and creativity on stage
  • Building skills in character and scene analysis -in-class work on scenes and monologues

Students will emerge from the class more competent and confident communicators and performers

Broadway Kids Chorus (Grades 3-6)

Come explore the kids’ ensemble numbers of Broadway in this 10-week performance class for 3rd-6th graders! In Broadway Kids Chorus, students will learn and workshop ensemble songs from classic and contemporary broadway musicals under the direction of a seasoned, professional teaching artist and musical director. Students will develop the building of blocks of stage etiquette, musicianship, and performance as they bring musical numbers to life with exciting harmonies, staging, and choreography. The class will culminate in a cabaret that showcases the ensemble with opportunities for soloists to shine. (Students should be comfortable singing in front of others.)

Musical Theater Workshop: The Broadway Ensemble

Musical Theater Workshop: The Broadway Ensemble

Come explore the ensemble numbers of Broadway in this 10-week performance class for adults! In Musical Theater Workshop: The Broadway Ensemble, students will learn and workshop ensemble songs from classic and contemporary Broadway musicals under the direction of a seasoned, professional coach/teaching artist and musical director. Students will develop skills in stage etiquette, stage presence, musicianship, and vocal technique as they collaborate to bring musical numbers to life with exciting harmonies and light staging/choreography*. The class will culminate in a cabaret that showcases the ensemble with opportunities for soloists to shine. *Light choreography will be tailored to comfort level and/or ability.

Acting Ensemble for Littles: Treasure Island (Grades K-2)

Acting Ensemble for Littles: Treasure Island is a theater arts class for young, budding performers that builds upon their interest in acting, movement, and self-expression—all while having fun! Designed especially for Littles (grades K-2nd), this class will explore the swashbuckling world of Treasure Island as interpreted by our favorite muppets. Students will become familiar with the basics of script analysis, stage directions, and storytelling in an interactive and dynamic learning environment. The class will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking for a lifelong love of performing. Students will get to show off their new skils with a final showcase on November 16.

Found Footage Filmmaking (Grades 7 – 12)

Found Footage Filmmaking (Grades 7 – 12)

“Found footage” films are some of the least expensive to shoot, but when done well, they can be extremely successful (Blair Witch Project, Area 51, Cloverfield) and be a great way to get your film exposed to a wider audience, even while on a shoestring budget. In Constellation’s Found Footage Filmmaking for Teens (Grades 7-12), budding filmmakers will learn how to write, crew, cast, shoot, and edit as they implement the particular “guerilla”-style cinematography used in found footage films. The class will culminate with filmmakers being guided through the process of submitting their short films to festivals.

Musical Theater Playground: Munchkinland (Grades K-2)

Musical Theater Playground: Munchkinland is an introduction to musical theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) that dives into the magical world of Munchkinland from the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz, Constellation’s 2024 holiday show. Students will practice skills such as vocal expression and accuracy, building characters, and movement, all while exploring the music and characters of the popular Munchkinland sequence. This fun and interactive learning environment will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

Acting for Adults: The Ensemble

Acting for Adults: The Ensemble

Constellation’s Acting for Adults: The Ensemble will focus on the collaborative nature of theatre and stage performance. In addition to ensemble-building acting exercises to help develop and sharpen your actor “toolkit,” actors will use scripted scenes from ensemble-driven plays as an “acting laboratory” to build upon the following skills: stage etiquette, identifying given circumstances, character analysis, script/scene analysis, staging/blocking, improvisation, playing an action, and stage presence. Students will leave the class more competent, confident, and collaborative performers. The class will culminate with a final showcase presentation of selected scenes.
