Constellation’s Spring Session classes are now open for enrollment! With offerings for all ages in acting, musical theater, comedy, filmmaking, and movement, there’s a little something for everyone. All spring classes take place at Constellation Studios (411 E 7th St).

SNL: School Night Laughs (Grades 5-6)

SNL: School Night Laughs (Grades 5-6)

Show off & capture your comedy skills in Constellation Stage & Screen’s special moviemaking class, SNL: School Night Laughs for Kids (Grades 5-6)! This immersive & experiential variety show-style course will give young comedians the opportunity to work on a safe, fun, and collaborative film set, creating bite-sized sketch comedy shorts that will be edited into a mini-SNL episode! Schoolnight Update, kooky commercials, and silly sketches provide the perfect playground for the creative kid! Students will will learn and actively participate in two stages of production: Pre-Production/Development and Production/Filming. Come ready to find your funny & creative voice!

Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner (Ages 18+)

Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner (Ages 18+)

Constellation’s Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner reinforces and builds upon improvisational skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv, will offer an introduction to long-form improv, and is open to adults with previous improv experience (class, workshop, troupe, etc). Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Intro to Improv for Adults (Ages 18+)

Constellation’s Intro to Improv for Adults introduces basic improv skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv and is open to adults with no previous improv experience. Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Broadway Kids: A Cabaret (Grades 3-6)

Broadway Kids: A Cabaret (Grades 3-6)

Come explore the kids’ roles of Broadway in this 7-week performance class for 3rd-6th graders! In Broadway Kids: A Cabaret, students will workshop songs from classic and contemporary musicals with kids in starring and supporting roles. Annie, Billy Elliott, The Lion King, Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Matilda, The Music Man, and Newsies are just a few of the Broadway shows that kids can explore with a professional coach guiding them through the acting and musical theater rehearsal and coaching process. The class will culminate in a cabaret that allows each student to shine as a soloist. (Students must be comfortable singing in front of others.)

Theater Playground: Bluey Meets Broadway (Grades K-2)

Theater Playground: Bluey Meets Broadway (Grades K-2)

Theater Playground: Bluey Meets Broadway is an introduction to theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) and will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling through imaginative play. Drawing inspiration from everyone’s favorite cartoon dog from Australia, students will explore pretend-play games from the world of Bluey while building foundational theater skills such as improvisation, communication, and crafting characters. Class activities will spark creative thinking, examine point of view, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

Constellation’s Acting for Teens curriculum is adapted from a variety of master teachers and acting tradition and will focus on the following:

  • understanding the actor’s toolbox (body, voice, breath, imagination)
  • identifying given circumstances
  • acting exercises and improv games to build confidence, trust and creativity on stage
  • building skills in character and scene analysis
  • in-class work on scenes and monologues

Students will leave the class more competent and confident performers.

Acting for Littles: Performing Pixar (Grades K-2)

Acting for Littles: Performing Pixar is a theater arts class for young, budding performers that builds upon their interest in acting, movement, and self-expression—all while having fun! Designed especially for Littles (grades K-2nd), this class will explore memorable scenes, characters, and storylines from Pixar films such as Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles, Inside Out, Coco, Luca, and more. Students will become familiar with the basics of scripts, stage directions, and storytelling in an interactive and dynamic learning environment. The class will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking for a lifelong love of performing.

Through collaborative scene study, students will emerge from the class more articulate, engaged, and confident performers. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as acting students with some experience.

Creative Movement for PreK (Ages 3-6)

Creative Movement for PreK (Ages 3-6)

Creative Movement is a space for 3-6 year olds to explore dance, music, imagination, and foster social-emotional skills. While some dance terms may be introduced, creative movement exists outside any one genre of dance; students will focus on self-expression and storytelling to guide their movement. In addition to dancing, students will use books and visual art to hone their skills as budding choreographers. Led by Callie Rekas, an experienced early childhood educator with a master’s degree in Dance Education from NYU, Creative Movement is the perfect introduction to performing arts for the PreK student.

Movement for the Actor: Building Stage Presence (Ages 18+)

Constellation’s Movement for the Actor: Building Stage Presence is designed to enhance and expand an actor’s movement vocabulary on stage. This course focuses on developing physical awareness, character embodiment, and expressive storytelling. Open to adults of all experience levels, from novices to those with some acting background, this class offers a supportive environment to explore the nuances of non-verbal communication and stage movement. Through practical exercises and creative exploration, students will learn to navigate the stage with purpose, convey emotions through movement, and create a compelling physical presence. This class not only enriches performance skills but also boosts confidence, fosters self-awareness, and opens new avenues for artistic expression.

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 18+)

Do you dream of being on stage in the next big musical? Want to nail that next audition? Do you struggle with knowing what to sing? Do you just want to have fun belting out your favorite show tunes? If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this class is for you! For budding performers with some singing experience to accomplished performers with a long resume, this 6-week workshop is geared towards audition technique and exploring and building musical theatre repertoire (although all genres of music are welcome). You will be able to experiment with new material or fine-tune songs that are already in your repertoire.

Designed especially for Littles (grades K-2nd), this class builds upon young, budding performers’ interest in acting, movement, and self-expression in a fun, dynamic, and interactive learning environment. Students will become familiar with the basics of scripts, stage directions, and storytelling while also using confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking and a lifelong love of performing.

Musical Theater Playground: Exploring the Disney Songbook (Grades K-2)

Musical Theater Playground: Exploring the Disney Songbook is an introduction to theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) that dives into the magical and memorable tunes that make up Disney’s rich repertoire—from Mary Poppins to Moana and everything in-between! Students will practice skills such as vocal expression, building characters, and movement, all while exploring Disney’s dynamic treatment of themes across time. This fun and interactive learning environment will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

Film Directing & Production for Teens (Grades 7-12)

In this Constellation Studios workshop, teens will get to know the ins and outs of all the gear needed to make a movie. This immersive, hands-on learning environment will give young filmmakers the opportunity to develop their camera, lens, lighting, audio, & directing skills. At the end of the session, teens will put their skills to work, filming a pre-selected, in-studio scene with local actors.
