Crashcourse in Moviemaking for Kids

Crashcourse in Moviemaking for Kids

A Crash Course In Moviemaking for Kids is open to all 3rd – 6th grade students and is a prerequisite* to participate in Constellation Studios Short Film Projects. Students will cover the basics of film production, including:

  • Overview of the beginning-to-end filmmaking process
  • Shot composition
  • Visual Pre-Production
  • Storytelling
  • Scene Coverage
  • Film set roles and responsibilities, and more!

*Students are not required to take this workshop if they have previously participated in a BAFT/Constellation Short Film Project, BAFT/Constellation Movie Camp, previous Crash Course in Moviemaking, or have equivalent experience through school programs.

Intro to Improv for Adults

Intro to Improv for Adults

Constellation’s Intro to Improv for Adults introduces basic improv skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv and is open to adults with no previous improv experience. Improv is a magical art form that is not only fantastically fun, it develops storytelling ability, enhances listening, communication, and collaboration skills, builds resilience, increases confidence, and so much more!

Short Film Project for Kids

Short Film Project for Kids

Jump into a full-scale short film production with Constellation Stage & Screen’s Short Film Project for Kids! This immersive, experiential, project-based learning environment will give young filmmakers the opportunity to work on a safe, fun, and collaborative film set. Filmmakers will learn and actively participate in each stage of film production:

  • Pre-Production: In this 5-week phase, students will get a “writer’s room” experience–a collaborative space where the groundwork for creative ideas comes together. Students will learn world-building by exploring and incorporating elements of screenwriting. Next, filmmakers will go through visual pre-production, shot lists, scheduling, and casting.
  • Production: In this full-day phase (February 25, 10am – 6pm), each student filmmaker will get a professionally guided hands-on experience to make their story come to life. They will learn how to effectively communicate as actors and filmmakers, rotate through crew positions, and practice industry-standard set operations.
  • Post-Production: In the final 2 project sessions, filmmakers will collaborate through the post-production and editing process and will complete their short film on the final day of the project. Each filmmaker will have the chance to rotate through a variety of film set positions both in front of and behind the camera. Come ready to find your creative voice!

In addition to regular class times, students need to be available for the Production Day on Saturday, February 25 from 10am-6pm.

Theater Playground: Scenes from Storybooks

Theater Playground: Scenes from Storybooks

Theater Playground: Scenes from Storybooks is an introduction to theater arts for littles (grades K-2nd) and will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling. Students will explore the fantastical worlds found in classic storybooks and will learn how to create narrative and put together the elements of a good story as they build upon communication skills and their ability to express new ideas. The class will also implement theatre games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

Acting on Camera for Teens

Whether you’re just a little curious about what it’s like to act on camera or if you have your sights set on Hollywood, Constellation’s Acting on Camera for Teen’s 4-week workshop intensive offers 7th – 12th grade students an introduction to the art of film acting. Musical Theater Workshop: World of Willy Wonka

Come explore the World of Willy Wonka! In this 4-week workshop for kids (3rd-6th grade), students will get a glimpse into what it’s like to be part of a musical production. With a focus on learning songs and scenes from this timeless classic, students will work with props, set pieces, and costumes and will be exposed to the casting process, where the teacher will cast students according to their abilities to read, take direction, and work with other students. Students must be comfortable singing in front of others.

Musical Theater Audition Masterclass (Ages 16+)

Musical Theater Audition Masterclass (Ages 16+)

In Constellation Stage & Screen’s Musical Theater Audition Masterclass, actors and singers aged 16+ will work on developing the skills, knowledge, and techniques required to deliver a quality musical theater audition. With professional guidance by Constellation’s artistic director, Kate Galvin, students will learn how to:

  • Choose music that matches the show, style, and character for which you’re auditioning
  • Organize your repertoire book
  • Make the best 16 or 32 bar cut
  • Prepare your sheet music in a way that allows your audition accompanist the best chance to help you succeed
  • Communicate and and work with your audition accompanist
  • Choose the best key for your song
  • Engage “the room” through acting choices and singing to your “partner”
  • Look your best–what to wear/what not to wear
  • Avoid audition pitfalls, and more!

Students who would like to participate in a mock audition should bring sheet music of a prepared 16-bar cut of a song of their choosing.

Acting for Kids: Scenes from the Movies

Constellation’s Acting for Kids: Scenes from the Movies is a fast-paced and fun introduction to acting that will use scenes from beloved classic and contemporary kids’ movies to focus on the building blocks of acting techniques, including voice and speech development, creative movement, and exploration of character. Through collaborative scene study, students will emerge from the class more articulate, engaged, and confident performers. This class is perfect for beginners, as well as acting students with some experience.

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 16+)

Musical Theater Workshop (Ages 16+)

Do you dream of being on stage in the next big musical? Want to nail that next audition? Do you struggle with knowing what to sing? Do you just want to have fun belting out your favorite show tunes? If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this class is for you!

For budding performers with some singing experience to accomplished performers with a long resume, this 4-week workshop is geared towards audition technique and exploring and building musical theatre repertoire (although all genres of music are welcome). You will be able to experiment with new material or fine-tune songs that are already in your repertoire.

You will also:

  • be given song suggestions that are appropriate to age and type, and will subsequently learn how to pick material for yourself
  • learn how to build and organize your audition book
  • work on audition technique, including how to enter the room, talk to the accompanist, and present your material
  • receive acting and musical guidance to help shape your performance, focusing on techniques of musical storytelling
  • analyze song structure and explore given circumstances
  • practice interpreting the lyric, both musically and dramatically
  • build skills in vocal projection, articulation, intonation, physicality, character development, and stage presence
  • learn how to critique your peers in a positive, constructive way
  • gain overall confidence in performance skills
