“Rob Zabrecky is one of LA’s most interesting natives.” —LA Weekly
You won’t find anyone else quite like Rob Zabrecky. A true polymath, Zabrecky has carved out an unmistakable niche for himself in the performing arts, blurring the lines between magic, comedy, acting, writing, and music. With his singular blend of humor, absurdity, and mind-bending performances, he’s not just an entertainer; he’s a cultural force, globally recognized for his out-of-the-box creativity.
Zabrecky’s magic isn’t for the casual viewer. It’s designed for those who don’t even realize they love magic yet, drawing you into a bizarre world where illusion, performance art, and comedy collide in the most unpredictable ways. His shows are as perplexing as they are captivating, challenging the audience to question reality while keeping them in stitches. From Tokyo to New York, he’s stunned audiences at magic festivals and conventions, earning a reputation as one of the most unique voices in the art form.
It’s not just the crowds who’ve taken notice: Zabrecky has collected seven prestigious awards from the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle. For the past 16 years, he’s hosted seances in the club’s haunted Houdini Séance Room, leaving guests spellbound by his brand of eerie theatricality.
Then there’s The Zabrecky Hour—his one-man comedy magic and variety show that’s toured the globe, earning rave reviews wherever it lands. Whether it’s pulling off jawdropping illusions or cracking wise with razor-sharp wit, Zabrecky’s live performances are an experience unlike any other.
On screen, Zabrecky is no stranger to a diverse range of roles. He’s made his mark in indie films like A Ghost Story, A Desert, Lost River, and Decay, showing his chops as a character actor with a knack for bringing complex, often unsettling figures to life. TV audiences know him from shows like Fallout, Lady Dynamite, GLOW, Comedy Bang! Bang!, and the biographical drama Strange Angel, which chronicles the life of rocket scientist Jack Parsons.
But it’s not just his on-screen work that’s gotten attention. Zabrecky’s literary debut, Strange Cures (Rothco Press), is a gritty, poetic memoir that dives into his personal journey of reinvention against the backdrop of 1970s-90s Los Angeles. The LA Times hailed it as “a punk poem to a forgotten Los Angeles,” while Go-Go’s guitarist Jane Wiedlin described it as “a 1980s San Fernando Valley Time Machine.”
Before all the magic and acting, Zabrecky’s musical roots run deep. He fronted the Los Angeles indie band Possum Dixon, a group that made waves in the ’90s with three albums on Interscope Records. Their sound, a mix of post-punk and pop sensibilities, left an indelible mark on the L.A. scene.
Whether on stage, on screen, or in print, Rob Zabrecky is a creator who defies easy categorization. He’s an artist constantly evolving, pushing boundaries, and finding new ways to make you laugh, think, and most of all, wonder.

Chad Rabinovitz (he/him) is the Artistic Director of Constellation Stage & Screen. Prior to Constellation, Chad was the Producing Artistic Director of Bloomington Playwrights Project for 14 years. Recent directing projects include the national tour of Penn & Teller Present: The Foolers, Glitches In Reality starring the reigning World Champion of Magic (Current Tour), The Jokers of Magic (upcoming tour) The Play That Goes Wrong (the best-selling show in the history of the Waldron Arts Center!), and the Off-Broadway production of The Life & Slimes Of Marc Summers (Off-Broadway Alliance Award Nominee), which started here in Bloomington! When not directing, Chad likes to launch sugary snacks at his space-themed candy store, THE CANDY SPACE, in Lake George, NY (thecandyspace.com) and manufactures his own brand of freeze-dried confections, SPACE CANDY, which can be found in the Smithsonian, Kennedy Space Center, and thousands of stores nationwide (gospacecandy.com).
