The Playoffs
THE 25th ANNUAL PLAYOFFS
Join a team. Create a brand-new short play. Raise money for local theater. Compete for the championship.
Whether you’ve been on stage for decades or have never acted before, there’s a place for you.
THE PITCH
The PlayOffs is part theater competition, part fundraiser, and all fun.
Teams of writers, actors, directors, and managers create an original 3–5 minute play. Along the way they raise money to support Constellation Stage & Screen, earn special advantages through fundraising, and compete for audience votes.
Every play premieres at The World Series, our live screening and awards celebration, where one team is crowned champion.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Join a Team
Choose your role:
- Actor
- Director
- Writer – can participate remotely
- Team Manager – the team’s cheerleader, can participate remotely
No experience required.
Don’t have a team? We’ll match you with one.
2. Raise Money
Each team raises money for Constellation.
Fundraising helps support our season and gives your team competitive advantages, including:
- earlier writing access
- earlier rehearsal opportunities
- first choice of Curveballs
- bonus votes toward the championship
3. Create Your Play
At Opening Pitch, every team drafts a set of Curveballs—surprise creative challenges that must appear in the play.
Examples include:
- a required line of dialogue
- a surprise prop
- a unique performance challenge
- an unexpected storytelling twist
Teams then write, rehearse, and professionally film their original short play.
4. The World Series
Everyone comes together for one big night.
- Watch every team’s film.
- Vote for your favorite.
- Celebrate the winners.
- Cheer on your friends.
Lots of awards are given. One team wins the World Series Trophy.
HOW TO WIN
One team emerges victorious: “The World Series Champions.” This is the team with the most combined votes earned through an audience ballot (popular votes) and fundraising (bonus votes).
⚾ Audience Votes +⚾ Fundraising Bonus Votes =🏆 World Series Champion
Other awards include:
- Audience Choice
- MVP (Top Fundraiser)
- All-Star Awards (Best Actor)
