Constellation names new Associate Artistic Director

Bloomington, IN – Constellation Stage & Screen is thrilled to announce the addition of an Associate Artistic Director. This new position, held by Daniella Wheelock, will directly support Constellation’s Artistic Director and coincides with the transition of Constellation’s current Artistic Director, Kate Galvin. Galvin will be transitioning to a part-time role as Constellation’s Casting Director and Creative Consultant starting in August of 2023. Chad Rabinovitz, currently the Artistic Director of New Works, will be taking over sole artistic leadership of Constellation Stage & Screen, beginning later this summer.

Constellation is delighted to be welcoming Daniella Wheelock (she/her), a theatermaker and community builder, to the Bloomington community! In addition to supporting the organization’s artistic and production activities, Wheelock is slated to direct Constellation’s production of Webster’s B**** next season and provide additional support for its growing Education program.

Wheelock graduated magna cum laude from the Conservatory for Theatre Arts at Webster University with a degree in Directing and was an Emerging Professional Resident at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre. She has three years of development experience writing grants and supporting arts organizations of all sizes in Chicago both as an individual and as a member of the Artistic Fundraising Group team.

Currently working in Chicago, Wheelock has directed at theaters across the country. Her most recent work in Bloomington was The Roommate in February 2020 at Cardinal Stage. Other recent directing credits include: The Rise and Fall of Holly Fudge (Phoenix Theatre | Indianapolis, IN); Hot Asian Doctor Husband (Alley Repertory Theatre | Boise, ID); Let Me Tell You: Stories of Asian American Authenticity (produced by mia park and Chicago Public Library | Chicago, IL); and Working (CATCO | Columbus, OH). You can learn more about Daniella at daniellawheelock.com.

Constellation’s Artistic team is ecstatic to begin working with Daniella, who will begin her role in June of 2023. Chad Rabinovitz says,

“Daniella has an exceedingly strong background as both an artist and an administrator.  She’s incredibly smart, talented, and a joy to be around – I can’t wait to have her join our team!  She’s not only great for Constellation, but she’ll be a wonderful addition to the Bloomington community.”

The addition of an Associate Artistic Director is also making it possible for Galvin to get back to her love of directing, pursuing freelance work across the country, while remaining on staff part-time for Constellation. As a part of her role as Casting Director and Creative Consultant, Galvin will be directing Constellation’s Family Holiday Show, Matilda the Musical, and teaching all summer camp sessions of Broadway Bootcamp.

When looking ahead at this transition, Kate Galvin says, “I am so proud of what Cardinal and Constellation have been able to accomplish in the last six years. We have been through some really challenging times and emerged stronger, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff and board, as well as the incredible support from this community. I know that Constellation is going to continue to grow and evolve and I am really excited to see what the future holds. I’m looking forward to spending more of my time directing, but happy to stay connected to Bloomington and continue to serve this organization in a new role.”

Wheelock’s full bio can be found on Constellation’s website SeeConstellation.org. She will begin her position as Associate Artistic Director on June first. For Press Inquiries, please contact Marketing Director Cassie Hakken at cassie@seeconstellation.org.
